Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum Awards Certificates to IMNCI Graduates at VSNM Campus, Ireda

Ireda Campus, Lira City –

In a significant milestone for the health education sector, Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum, Chairperson of the Academic Committee of the Governing Council, presided over a heartwarming certificate awarding ceremony for students who successfully completed the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) course at the VSNM campus in Ireda.

The IMNCI program, a World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF-endorsed strategy, equips healthcare providers with the necessary skills to reduce child mortality and promote child health through integrated care. This particular cohort at VSNM has demonstrated commendable commitment, resilience, and competence in mastering both theoretical knowledge and practical clinical skills.

Prof. Dokotum, while presenting the certificates, commended the graduates for their dedication and passion in advancing child health. He emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and highlighted the vital role these health workers will play in their respective communities.

"You are now torchbearers of a brighter and healthier future for our children. With your training, you carry the responsibility to reduce preventable child deaths and improve health outcomes in every facility and community you serve," Prof. Dokotum remarked.

He also lauded the efforts of the VSNM faculty and partners for their unwavering support in implementing the IMNCI curriculum effectively. The Chairperson reiterated the Council's commitment to academic excellence, practical training, and the holistic empowerment of healthcare professionals.

The event was attended by faculty members, clinical instructors, local health officials, and proud family members of the graduates. It concluded with a pledge from the graduating class to serve with integrity, compassion, and a community-first mindset.

As these newly certified healthcare providers step into the field, the impact of their training is expected to resonate far beyond Ireda—touching lives across Northern Uganda and contributing to the national goal of improved child and neonatal health.
