VSNM Distributes Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets to Malaria Champions in Lango Sub-Region

In a bold step towards combating malaria in Northern Uganda, the Vision School of Nursing and Midwifery (VSNM) has distributed insecticide-treated mosquito nets to Malaria Fighting Champions across the Lango Sub-Region. The initiative, spearheaded by the school’s public health outreach team, is part of VSNM’s ongoing community engagement efforts to support preventative health care.
The mosquito nets were handed over during a community outreach event held at the VSNM campus in Ireda. These specially selected Malaria Champions — comprised of community health workers, village health teams (VHTs), and local advocates — were recognized for their outstanding efforts in sensitizing the public on malaria prevention, early treatment, and proper use of insecticide-treated nets.
Speaking at the event, the Principal of VSNM commended the recipients for their unwavering dedication to public health.
“We believe that equipping local heroes with the right tools is key to winning the fight against malaria. These nets are more than just fabric — they represent our shared commitment to protecting lives, especially among vulnerable populations like children and pregnant mothers,” she noted.
The initiative aligns with Uganda’s national malaria control strategy, which promotes the widespread use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) as a primary intervention. In the Lango sub-region, malaria continues to be one of the leading causes of illness, making local-level action like this not only timely but essential.
Community members who attended the event applauded VSNM for taking an active role beyond classroom walls. Local leaders present at the ceremony also pledged to continue supporting malaria prevention campaigns and ensure that the distributed nets are used correctly.
The VSNM team announced that more outreach programs, including malaria education, maternal health awareness, and sanitation drives, are scheduled in the coming months — all aimed at improving public health across the region.
Through such initiatives, VSNM continues to strengthen its reputation not only as a center of academic excellence but also as a pillar of community health and development in Northern Uganda.
