Lira City – [Insert Date]

In a passionate drive to curb the high incidence of malaria in Northern Uganda, students from the Vision School of Nursing and Midwifery (VSNM) recently took to the airwaves of Qfm, one of the region’s leading radio stations, to sensitize the public about the deadly impact of malaria—particularly on pregnant women and children under five.

During the live radio engagement, the students discussed the symptoms, complications, and prevention strategies of malaria in simple, relatable language tailored to the community. The session was part of VSNM’s community health education campaign, which aims to bridge the gap between medical knowledge and public awareness.

“Malaria is not just a fever — it can lead to miscarriages, severe anemia, premature births, and even death, especially in pregnant mothers and children under five. Prevention starts with awareness,” one student emphasized during the broadcast.

The students also used the platform to explain the importance of using insecticide-treated mosquito nets, seeking early diagnosis and treatment, and maintaining proper sanitation around homes. They encouraged listeners to be proactive and take personal responsibility in the fight against malaria.

Qfm presenters, impressed by the clarity and enthusiasm of the students, applauded VSNM for nurturing healthcare professionals who are both knowledgeable and community-driven. The interactive session also allowed listeners to call in, ask questions, and share their personal experiences with malaria.

Listeners from Lira, Kole, Oyam, Alebtong, and as far as Apac called in to thank the students for raising awareness and urged VSNM to continue with more radio sensitizations on other public health topics.

This initiative further cements VSNM’s reputation not only as a training ground for health professionals but also as an active voice in public health advocacy. Through mass media platforms like Qfm, the school is ensuring that critical health information reaches even the most remote corners of Northern Uganda.
